5 Hair styles for when you are in a rush

When you’re on the go, perfecting your hair before you quickly head out can feel an onerous and time-consuming task, yet naturally, you still want to look good. We’ve put together a few tips and tricks to keep up your sleeve for when you and your hair are against the clock.

The messy bun

Ah, the messy bun. It’s one of the most popular quick hairdos there is, but not everyone knows how to perfect it. A high messy bun can look really flattering, casually taking the hair away from your face, yet not looking overly styled. To achieve the look, take an elastic band to create a standard pony tail, then turn your hair around the base to form a bun and secure it with a few bobby pins, adjusting them to make sure they’re not too visible. If you prefer, you can use another elastic band to secure the bun down. Messy bun done.

The braided headband

Now this is a clever one, and especially if you don’t want to have your hair up but still away from your face, plus it works on both long and mid-length hair. Take a small section of hair from just behind your ear. Plait this hair and tie it with a small elastic band at the end. Then do the same on the other side. Take one of the braids and place it over the top of your head (where you would typically wear a head band) and take it to the other side, close to where the other braid is and secure it with grips. Do the same for the other braid, et voila, you will have a lovely double braided headband. Remember, your hair will need to be long enough to reach over to the corresponding side when plaited.

The low twisted bun

When time is not on your side, a close relation of the messy bun also comes into play. The twisted low bun is really simple and allows more scope for showing off the shine, texture and colour or highlight in your hair. To begin, pull your hair away from your face towards the nape of your neck and tie it in a bun with an elastic band. Then, divide the tied hair into two sections and twist them around each other until you have a single piece. Secure the end with a small elastic band then wrap the twisted piece around itself to form a bun. Again, use bobby pins to gently secure the bun to the rest of your hair. You can use a dash of hairspray to keep any flyaway strands at bay, and if you want to keep it messy, allow a few loose strands out.

The double ponytail

The double ponytail gets double points. One for ease and one for effectiveness. Section the top half of your hair and pull away from your face to secure with a band. Leave it in position, or use a clip to temporarily keep it away from the rest of your hair. Then, take the remainder hair, and raise it up to just underneath your original pony tail. Release the clip from the first pony tail and there you have it. A double pony tail that looks like one, with a bit of a difference. This style works best with wave and volume in both your ponytails, allowing them to look more seamless.

The simple twist

The simple twist looks great on short hair, and longer hair too. It also looks good as a messy do. Start by spritzing your hair with texture spray. Then, part your hair in the middle to form a centre parting. Take a small section of hair from the front of the right-hand side, twist it all the way down to the bottom of the strand, then pin it back to the back centre of your head. Do the same on the left side and pin it back to the same place as the first twisted strands. Minimal effort, maximum reward.
