Make-up foundations (primer)

Foundation and primer are probably the most important tools in every woman's make-up bag. When chosen correctly, they can do wonders to hide skin imperfections, highlight what we want to show and give us confidence. After all, soft and smooth skin is something we all want to enjoy.

However, when you first encounter make-up - foundations and primers can be a tricky area. That's why we're here to share what we know ourselves so that the selection process is less complicated. What are foundations and primers, how do I use them and what should I know about them?

What is it?

Foundation - what is it? The main purpose of this product is to even out the color of your complexion by coating it with pigment. However, it also gives the skin a smooth, natural glow. The effect of the make-up base is visible immediately - as soon as the product is applied, the skin becomes more elastic and glowy, and the no-make-up effect is easily noticeable.

Makeup primer - what is it? It is a product that helps to mask the imperfections of the facial skin, such as unevenness, pigment spots, fine wrinkles or acne. The right base helps to hide skin oiliness, redness and enlarged pores, so your make-up will look its best when used with it.

For the best effect, foundation and base should be used together, thus creating a reliable, imperfection-masking surface for makeup. Only after using these products you can continue the beauty routine and apply powder, blush, etc.

The right foundation for your skin type

The right foundation for your skin type, as with any other skincare product, your skin type and the expectations you have on your foundation and primer are extremely important. All this will help you find the product that suits you best.

Facial skin care products are very individual - the fact that the product is good and made by a well-known brand, suits your mother and friend, or has a great composition, does not mean that it will suit you and meet your expectations.

For oily skin

For oily skin, a liquid foundation or foam is best. Thanks to its light texture and easy application, it adapts to the individual characteristics of the skin and gives a matt effect that lasts all day. Oily skin products are oil-free, it won’t clog pores but will eliminate shine by regulating oil secretion.

For dry skin

For dry and sensitive skin, a cream foundation is ideal. With its moisturising properties, it acts as an easy-to-apply, perfect-coverage cream that keeps your skin hydrated. The moisturiser allows your skin to breathe, gives it a light coverage and a smooth finish.

Mature skin

For those with mature skin, a mineral foundation is a good option. It intensely hydrates, soothes and brightens the skin, creating an ultra-light protective layer. Mineral foundation also effectively smooths wrinkles, conceals enlarged pores and, if added with an SPF filter, provides protection against UV rays.

Combination skin

A loose compact foundation is ideal for combination skin. It's lightweight, well-covered, all-day long, reliable and breathable, giving the impression of smooth and even skin. The foundation brush allows the product to be applied evenly and flawlessly.

How to use make-up primer?

If you have questions about what a make-up base is or how to use it, it is best to contact a beautician, who will not only recommend the best product for your skin but will also introduce you to the subtleties of its use.

For first-time users, it is important to know that the base (primer) should be applied after the day cream or serum and before any other make-up products.

After applying the base, you should wait at least 5 minutes before applying foundation, powder or other products. Allow the base to soak into the skin, forming the necessary protection.

You can apply make-up primer to your face with a brush or sponge, but if you don't have one, your fingers will do. You can use your hands to gently press the base into your skin.
