What is Olaplex?

Olaplex is a popular restorative hair product range which both novices and experienced hair professionals swear by for hair repair. Considered something of a godsend in hair styling circles, this product also has a preventative role in safeguarding hair against further damage. We have provided the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions we receive about Olaplex, so that you know everything you need to know before you use it.

What is in it?

The main active ingredient Olaplex contains is a substance called Bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate. This is a patented ingredient which effectively works to repair broken bonds throughout the length of your hair.

What does it do?

As mentioned already, the active ingredient in Olaplex works on the molecules to restore damaged disulfide bonds which are often the result of damage from chemicals such as bleach and those present in other colouring methods. It works on all hair types from ultra-fine hair, to coloured hair to afro hair. There is literally no type of hair that it won’t help improve the health of. It is even effective on hair extensions, helping them look even more realistic and shiny.

Is it expensive?

Olaplex is great value for money considering the benefits it brings. It shouldn’t set you back a great deal financially but it will potentially save you oodles of time worrying about the condition of your hair. Being able to apply it regularly at home, after the initial salon application, also means saving on trips to the hairdressers for restorative treatments.

Is it effective?

The more you use it, the more effective it will be. With a regular pattern of use, your hair will become stronger, shinier and much healthier. It locates any broken bonds, from the root right through to the tip of the hair and reconnects them covalently and ionically, regardless of the initial cause of damage. It is also used by colourists to add to their colour treatments to maintain healthy hair through the process and prevent damage occurring in the first instance.

How to use Olaplex

Olaplex is a 3-stage system. The first two stages are carried out in a salon by a professional. Once these are complete, the third stage can be done at home, as often as is necessary. We would recommend once a week, along with a salon treatment with each visit. It is also possible to trial the third stage prior to getting the first two stages done, to give yourself an idea of the benefits it offers, before hitting the salon. It isn't a substitute for salon treatments but it gives you a sense of what can be achieved. Olaplex No.3 is considered by many to be a sort of mini treatment, of course for the full benefits, you need to invest in the full procedure (1,2 and 3)

Are there any further home treatments available?

Olaplex manufactures a range of products that are designed specifically with home use in mind. These include a hair perfector, a maintenance shampoo and conditioner and a bonding oil, amongst others. It is definitely a range that you won't regret investing in, and that your hair will thank you for.
