Cleansing toners - why do I need one?

All women use many different products in their daily beauty routine - serums, day and night creams, micellar water, eye cream and many more. But toners remain undeservedly neglected. And for no reason at all! Facial toner should also be an equally important part of your skincare routine. Here's how to choose the right toner for your skin and use it correctly.

Facial toners, what are they?

Facial toners - what are they? A toner is a product designed to revitalize the skin after it has been cleansed with micellar water or make-up remover and washed off with a cleanser. It should be used before applying other cosmetic products, such as creams, serums, etc., as they prepare the skin, allowing it to absorb the cosmetics more easily and to absorb all the beneficial properties.

The toner can be applied in two ways - using a cotton pad or your palms and fingers. All you need to do is dab the toner gently and evenly onto your face. Although cotton pads are supposed to be a much more hygienic way of applying the toner than fingers, cotton absorbs more of the liquid product, so you'll use up the toner faster.

It's important to know that a good facial toner does more than just moisturize your skin. It balances the skin's pH, which may be out of normal balance due to the use of harsh cosmetic products, tightens pores, gives a fresh and clean feeling and helps to cover up all sorts of skin imperfections.

What are the types of facial toners?

To choose a toner that is truly high-quality, the first thing you should do is to consider your skin type - dry, combination and oily skin types are all different, and the instructions for use will be very individual.

Dry skin/ Sensitive skin

This skin type requires extra care, so the composition of the product is very important - the toner should be alcohol-free, supplemented with glycerin, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid and vitamins. Toners for dry and sensitive skin should actively moisturize, nourish and soften the skin.

Oily skin

Oily skin owners should look out for a toner that tightens the pores and removes excess sebum, is soothing and tones the skin. It is important that it contains salicylic or AHA acids, glycolic or tea tree extract.

Combination skin

For combination skincare, it is important not to choose a toner that is too drying or one that is intensely moisturizing. The key is to refresh, tone and restore the pH balance. Ideally, a toner containing rose water or aloe vera should be used.
